Anglo-Zulu and Anglo-Boer Wars
2 days, departure from Durban every Monday
A Visit the historic sites of the
Anglo-Zulu War (1879) and Anglo-Boer War (1899 -1902) over two days.
Specialist battlefield guides will take you to the battlefields of
Isandlwana, Rorkes Drift, Ladysmith and Spioenkop. Travel in our comfortable,
airconditioned minibus and overnight in well appointed country accommodation.
Day one (Anglo-Zulu War):
We drive from Durban into Zululand, following the route of Lord Chelmsford
column, during the build up of the hostilities between the Zulus
and the British. The site of Isandlwana is largely as it was over
100 years ago and we are able to vividly imagine the sounds of
battle as our guide recounts that fateful day. From Isandlwana,
we travel to Rorkes Drift, where we listen to an account of the
defence of that famous military deposit against the onslaught of
some 4000 Zulu warriors.
Overnight in country guest lodge (all rooms ensuite). (LD)
Day two (Anglo-Boer War):
We now skip 20 years and follow the fortunes of the British army
against the two Boer republics, visiting the small town of Ladysmith
that was the focus of world attention for four months. From Ladysmith
we drive to Spioenkop. Here we listen to the story of the battle
of Spioenkop, standing amongst the unmarked graves of fallen heroes.
And then it is back to Durban, calling in on places of interest
as time permits. (BL)
Here is a scheduled battlefield tour that departs every Monday all
year round, ex Durban.
