HOOFPRINTS OF HISTORY

A three day riding tour to the historic battlefields and a game park
(suitable for novice riders).

Day one:
Self drive from airport (JNB or DBN) to Rorkes Drift (4 or 3 hours) to arrive early afternoon at lodge.
Join David Rattray’s lecture group at Rorkes Drift at 15h30 for lecture on the battle. (Rattray himself may not do the lecture). Overnight comfortable lodge accommodation close to Rorkes Drift (D)

Day two:
Meet trail ponies at Rorkes Drift museum and ride with rider guide across Buffalo River along the wagon route into the heart of Zululand to arrive at Isandlwana in time for picnic lunch. Account of the battle by rider guide. Return to the lodge for the night

Day three:
Drive south across the Tugela River to a private game farm near Colenso visiting the site of Churchill's armoured train disaster on the way. Overnight in private chalet on the banks of the Umsulusi River. (BLD)

Day four
Early morning horse ride amongst the game, followed by early lunch and then it is time to drive on to Durban or JNB. (BL)

Price on application - which includes maps and itinerary booklet, accommodation, meals as specified, entry fees, Rorkes Drift lecture, riding and rider-guide. Not included are lunch on day one, alcoholic beverages and gratuities.
